Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use the Chance Publishers website, register for our author portal, or engage us for publishing services. By using our site or portal, or by paying for our services, you agree to these terms.

Our services

Chance Publishers provides book publishing support in Kenya, including manuscript editing, proofreading, interior layout, cover design, ISBN facilitation through the Kenya National Library Service, printing guidance, author branding and book launch support. Exact deliverables and pricing for your project are set out in your chosen publishing package (Bronze, Silver or Gold) or in a written quotation.

The author portal

• You are responsible for keeping your login password confidential and for all activity under your account.
• You must provide accurate information when registering and when completing your NDA — including your ID/passport number, contact details and manuscript.
• We may suspend or close an account used for fraudulent submissions, abuse of staff or other users, or breach of these terms.

The publishing process

Before we can review or work on your manuscript, you must:

1. Choose a publishing package and start a project through the author portal.
2. Complete and sign our Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and pay the applicable NDA processing fee.
3. Pay the required deposit on your chosen publishing package (see our Payment Policy).

Once these steps are complete, your manuscript moves through admin review, editing, proofreading, interior layout, cover design and final approval, in that order. You will be notified — by email, SMS or WhatsApp, and inside the portal — at each stage that needs your input or approval.

Your responsibilities

• You confirm that the manuscript you submit is your own original work, or that you hold the rights necessary to have it published, and that it does not infringe on anyone else's copyright, defame any person, or violate any law.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of the content in your manuscript. Editing and proofreading services improve grammar, structure and presentation — they do not verify facts, claims or legal compliance of your content.
• You agree to respond to review and approval requests in a reasonably timely manner, since delays on your side will delay your book's production timeline.

Fees and payment

Publishing package fees, NDA fees and printing costs are as set out in our Payment Policy and in your specific invoice. Work at each stage begins only once the applicable payment for that stage has been verified.

Intellectual property

You retain full ownership and copyright of your manuscript at all times. See our Copyright & Manuscript Ownership policy for full detail. The Chance Publishers name, logo, website design and portal software remain our property.

Limitation of liability

We provide publishing services with reasonable skill and care, but we do not guarantee any particular sales outcome, review, or level of commercial success for your book. To the extent permitted by Kenyan law, our liability for any claim relating to our services is limited to the fees you have paid us for the specific service in question.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of our services after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.
