Before your manuscript enters editorial review, we ask you to confirm a few identity details as part of your Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This page explains why, and how that information is protected.
Why we verify identity
- To make our NDA legally enforceable. An NDA is only meaningful if we know exactly who it protects — your ID or passport number and address make the agreement a genuine, binding legal document, not just a formality.
- To prevent fraudulent submissions. Verification helps us confirm that the person submitting a manuscript is genuinely its author or has the right to publish it, protecting both you and other authors from impersonation.
- To protect payments. Since publishing packages and printing involve real money changing hands, verified identity helps prevent payment fraud and disputes over whose project is being paid for.
What we ask for
- Your full legal name, as it should appear on your NDA and publishing agreement.
- Your ID or passport number.
- Your address and contact details.
- An alternative contact person (optional but recommended) — someone we can reach if we are unable to reach you directly during your project.
We do not ask for a photo or scan of your ID document through the portal — only the ID/passport number itself, entered as text.
How this information is protected
Your identity information is used only for the purposes described above — preparing your NDA, verifying your submission, and (where necessary) resolving payment disputes. It is never published, shared publicly, or sold. See our Privacy Policy and Data Protection policy for full detail on how we store and protect it.
Staff and partner verification
The same principle applies in reverse: every editor, designer, layout artist and printing partner working on your project has been engaged directly by Chance Publishers and operates under our confidentiality obligations. You can always ask, through the portal or directly, who is currently working on your project.
